THE POWER WITHIN

The mini-sub descended slowly. Inside, the five Japanese researchers who had been sent to search for ‘something unusual' were wondering if what they were searching for was even here. They had been down there for nearly four hours and all they had seen was water, a few hundred fish and a rather large shark. Which caused a bit of panic until they realised it was someone's practical joke – a fake fish.

“Heh, heh, that looks like it's got some Jaws!” Sawatari Sakura said “Jaws – gettit!”

“Please stop with the jokes,” said Takeshi Yoshida “all we've had for the past three hours are fish and chips, do we ‘see water' and other crap jokes. My jokes would blow yours away. But this isn't the right time for them.”

“I don't like you guys fighting,” moaned Saito Mai “it upsets me.”

“Look you three, do you really wanna make me mad?” asked Minami Kotaro.

“No-one is getting mad” Kenichi Kai told the rest of them “I think there is something up ahead”

Sure enough a large dark figure was appearing outside the front window

“What d'ya think it is?” asked Mai.

“I don't know,” replied Kotaro “but it seems to be approaching rather too quickly to be a cliff. In fact it appears to be quite a fast creature, and it is heading straight for us!”

“Everyone, evasive manoeuvres now” yelled Kai.

The mini-sub lurched as the jets kicked in and the creature just missed the sub by inches.

“Ok, I think we lost it” said Kotaro .

“Don't be so sure” Yoshida shouted, “the bloody thing is chasing us!”

The creature had turned round and was now chasing them. They weaved this way and that, not looking where they were going, passing under rock formations and over startled sea-horses. They started going faster to try and escape the thing but it just kept up. Suddenly, due to moving too fast, they clipped a cliff wall. The sub span out of control, the lights flickered and went out. The spinning caused the team to fall unconscious, and the sub careered out of sight of the creature and into the shadowy depths.

Kai was the first to wake. He took a look around and noticed that his teammates were also just rousing themselves. Kotaro started working on getting the lights working, while Kai made sure the others were okay. The lights flickered back to life, and they heard a startled gasp from Kotaro. They followed his gaze and saw that they were in a chamber that was half flooded. The chamber had a very organic look to it, with large struts criss-crossing all over. The readings in the sub suggested that the atmosphere was breathable.

“Well, are we going out there?” asked Mai nervously.

“Of course,” said Kai, and before Yoshida could say anything he added, “we were sent to find something unusual. I think this qualifies.”

So they grabbed some data readers and some measuring devices and left the sub. The team made their way slowly along the nearest strut, measuring as they went. Soon they came to a wall but there was a hole in the wall. So, surprisingly without any arguments, they went through the hole. They were too stunned at their surroundings to do anything else. What they saw in the next room was more than they had bargained for. In the middle of the room was a pedestal with three sides set in the floor and in those sides were… weird objects. They could best be described as round, made of purple vines, with greenish metal casing pieces clamped from three directions. The centre however, was most intriguing. There was a shiny domed disc, which seemed to resonate power. Kai was the first to speak.

“Well, I think we should take them for research.”

“Don't be stupid,” Yoshida yelled, “we don't know what they are! They could be weapons, or toxic, or anything!”

“Heh, heh, they could even be body-snatching pods like in that film” Sakura nervously joked.

“Don't scare me” said Mai “I think we should take them”

“Me too” said Kotaro

“Ok then, majority rules” said Kai, “we take them”

“Hang on” said Kotaro “there's another hole in the wall over here”

He disappeared through the hole

“Hey there are two more objects through here” he shouted, “I'll bring them through”

So, carrying an object each they slowly made their way back to the sub. They then rose to the surface and using their navigational computers made their way back to land. They climbed out of the sub clutching an object each, but as their feet touched dry land they heard a voice behind them.

“I'll be taking them units, thank you.” the voice said quietly.

They turned round to find a small man in a sharp suit, and sunglasses had addressed them.

“I don't think so,” said Kai “we found these after a lot of hard work. If you think we are just gonna hand them over…”

He was cut off as the man moved with abnormal speed, racing across the dock and grabbing him by the throat. He lifted him clean off the ground and whispered, just loud enough for them to hear,

“I know you had a hard time, and so did I. I lost you once, I won't again. My boss, Paige, told me you were looking for that relic, and that's why I followed you. I knew there would be units in their and I now demand you hand them over. Unless you want things to get ugly.”

“When people threaten me, I don't usually listen,” gasped Kai.

The others tried to kick the man, but he dropped Kai and raced away.

“Ok,” he said “now you will hand them over with your dead hands”

So saying, he started to shift. The team looked on in horror as his clothes started to tear as his body grew and changed. He also started growing scales all over himself. When he stopped changing he stood at well over seven feet tall and had big teeth and claws.

“Say hello to Darza!” he shouted and roared.

A joint impulse caused the team to hug the units closer to themselves, but as they did so, they heard a click from the direction of the shiny disc. A high-pitched whine started to emanate from the units and when they looked at them they noticed they were glowing. Before they could react the purple tentacles leaped from the casings, and engulfed each of them. Steam started to obscure Darza's view and he strained to see what was going on. The steam started to clear and he noticed that the five annoying humans looked slightly different. They were bigger, and resembled that other guy he had heard of. But they each had distinct colours. Red, Blue , Pink, Yellow, and Green. They each took one step forward.

“Noooo!” he wailed “not Guyvers!”

The steam cleared and there stood five Guyvers. Darza ran towards them but as one they fired lasers from their foreheads at random parts of him.

“Nice try Guyvers,” he shouted “but I have been modified to withstand your lasers”

He was obviously in pain though as he was not designed to withstand five. He reached the Guyver's and started slashing at them. Red and Blue dodged but he caught Pink across the middle. She fell, but quickly got up again as Yellow found a nifty sword on his arm. He sliced an ear off Darza and rolled around to the other side of him. As one they all grew nifty, humming swords from thier arms and leaped at Darza. But he was a slippery sod. They got a few nicks and cuts in, but nothing worse than a finger here, a testicle there. Then he spotted some civilians. The Guyvers looked at each other and with a seemingly telepathic nod of approval they started charging their head-lasers, this time concentrating on his head. As he ran towards the kids they fired and With a scream, his head melted and he fell to the ground, the rest of him melting into a soggy mess.

The team started to wake fully, still in Guyver form.

“What the hell…” said Kotaro “what have we become?”

“I don't know,” said Kai “but I don't like it.”

The team started to get agitated, and as they did so the armour burst off of them and faded away behind them.

“Ok, what is going on” said a surprisingly serious Sakura

“I wanna go home” moaned Mai, as she started to cry softly

“Well maybe we best try and find out who this Paige is” said Yoshida "and get out of here before people start asking questions"

Saying this they decided to go home and try and find out what had happened to them.
